I noticed that the agenda posted before our March meeting somehow got messed up. So, this is a repost of that Agenda….
BASC Agenda, March 18th 2009
1. Minutes approval
2. Press Conferences which need to be held by Mayor Battle, Rex Reynolds, and Chief Reyes to address significance of Share the Road sign installation…Informing the public of lawful motorist interaction and how to pass cyclists. This press conferences work to inform and educate the public as to steps and progress…IE: Awareness, webpage, TE grant submittals, National Bike Month, etc.
3. Mayor’s Ride
a) The Mayor needs a bike.
b) Parade permit submitted; route approved.
c) Pre-day route ride update.
d) Mayor should read proclamation of Bike Month (attached) at the Mayor’s Bike Ride
4. Bike map (Pete)
a) Logos…City Logo & Madison County 911 only. No clubs, but perhaps what to do OR where to call if you are…harassed, hit, etc. (ask Rodney Baker)
b) Route signage/STR update. (Jo Somers)
c) Projected release date
5. Website to include:
a) Meeting minutes as well as agenda’s to be linked so they are available for public viewing.
b) Flowchart doc along with purpose was submitted to Trent Willis after last meeting with important content for bike safe… to all as well as Trent Willis. No safety info listed…no changes made as of yet.
6. PSA’s
a) Letter for the mayor to sign was drafted (Marjorie) and re-drafted (Jamie) (attached) and submitted to James Moore and I think Sharon King. (James to update)
b) City/BASC produced brochures to educate motorists/cyclists on laws, rights, and practices produced in-house.
c) Clear Channel is supposedly running PSA’s some as of last week (Teresa)…Sharon to speak on SCCC allotment of $300.00 toward Clear channel proposal to city from last month.
d) “Talk show” filming complete…group review and approval before final submit. (Sharon/Blake)
e) Consolidate and streamline slides on Govac. Add shots of cyclists riding in streets, have slides that show actual hand signals, how to pass a cyclist. Just refine and tighten info by next month. (Teresa/Blake)
7. Thanks to all who worked on TE Education/Safety grant proposal (just about everyone except Marjorie who was at the National Bike Summit)
a) Any word if it was chosen for submittal? (Assign James to call ALDOT to find out)
8. May is Nat’l Bike Month
a) Proclamation written for the mayor and submitted to Sharon King (attached)
9. Bikeways Plan review
a) Set a date for review of comments.
b) Discuss organizing breakout groups to tackle plan efficiently.
10. New Business:
a) Report from Nat’l Bike Summit, time permitting (Marjorie)
